The move roadmap

Your Germany move, arranged by dependency

A practical roadmap from document preparation in Thailand through Anmeldung, banking, tax ID and first-month records.

In Thailand: establish the facts

Confirm the legal basis and date of your move with the appropriate authorities or immigration counsel. Build a document inventory around actual uses: accommodation, address registration, employment, family status, health cover and banking. Verify translation or certification requirements with the receiving body.

Record how you will access money during the period before a German account is usable. Keep evidence showing the source of significant transferred funds.

Before arrival: protect the critical path

Ask whether your accommodation can issue a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Research the destination city’s official Anmeldung process and appointment practice. Prepare health-insurance evidence suitable for your status, and ask your employer what payroll needs before the first salary run.

First days: address and communication

Move into the declared address and obtain the landlord confirmation. Attend Anmeldung with the locally required documents. Put your name on the letterbox exactly enough for official post to reach you; the tax ID is normally sent by mail after registration.

First weeks: banking and payroll

Use your confirmed address status to approach an account provider whose identity-check and document requirements fit your situation. Give payroll the information available and agree how missing items will be supplied. Learn how SEPA transfers and direct debits will handle rent, utilities and insurance.

As letters arrive: identify, file, act

Separate letters by sender: municipality, Bundeszentralamt für Steuern, Finanzamt, health insurer, bank and broadcasting contribution service. Record deadlines and keep envelopes where the post date matters. Do not treat every number on an official letter as your tax ID.

When specialist advice is needed

Immigration decisions belong with an immigration lawyer or authority. Individual cross-border tax analysis and tax returns belong with a qualified tax adviser. Investment, credit and insurance recommendations may require licensed providers. Our role is to help you recognise the boundary and arrive at those conversations prepared.

Ask us to map these stages to your city and arrival month.
